Homework note Week 11

posted 15 Nov 2015, 12:44 by Vincent Gleeson

Dear Parents,

Thank you for sending in the items for our experiments during Science Week. We had a visit from John a local farmer last week and many children now want to be farmers!  We are moving our Aistear theme from the farm to the hairdresser/barber this week. If you have any items at home that would help us play (Hairdryer, curler etc) please send them in. Our school will be presented with a National Flag on this Wednesday by members of the Defence Forces.

Just a few notes.

Parent Teacher Meeting. Please see the link on our class page to book a slot for the 24,25 or 26th of November.

Earphones Please check that child has their earphones with them each day. It is difficult for them to hear in a busy classroom without them.

Aistear Theme Hairdresser/Barber.

Word Wallet activities. (These are progressing)

Jolly Phonics – for each sound

1.     Match the green sound, make the sound and show you the action.

2.    Ask the children to make a word or words using the sounds (green cards) they already have. This week we are working on words that contain the “th” sound. Try to make these words

this, that, then, (Monday) with, them, than (Tuesday)

thin, moth, tenth (Wednesday), thing, thick, thud (Thursday)

Tricky Word activities. – Children will continue revising the Tricky Words. Tricky Words are very common words that do not follow the Jolly Phonics rules. They can’t be broken down and sounded out like most words. They must be just learned. Seniors will be revising the words. 1st class will be writing sentences with these words. See the Jolly Phonics link on our website for more on Tricky Words.

1.     Match the coloured card to its place on the white card. (Place the “they” on top of the white “they”)

2.    Say the word.

3.    Ask the children for a sentence with that word in it. (I saw that they were lost.)

This week we will talk about the National Flag. November is the month were we remember someone we know who has passed away. We will talk about that and there is an activity in our Grow In Love book on p59 to be completed at home. We may have no homework on Wednesday.

Thanks

Mr. Gleeson.
