Homework Note Week 22 and 23

Post date: 14-Feb-2016 23:27:39

Dear Parents,

Thank you for supporting the Lenten activities in the school. They will continue over the next weeks. We have our midterm break on Thursday and Friday this week and next week we have the Election on Friday. On the 24th of February we plan a trip to see Beauty and the Beast in the Lime Tree Theater. So we will have homework on 4 nights in the next 2 weeks. Again, thank you for your continued support with the Healthy Lunches. Let me know if you need me to encourage someone to eat something. I have given each child a tools for school checklist. We can keep these in the pencil case. Please regularly ask the children have they got all the tools they need for school. Just like a builder needs tools to build they need tools to learn in school. As part of our activities around Easter 1916 in the school I’ve included 2 photos from the old school taken in 1907 and 1926. I found those in a book called Pallaskenry - A look back by Pat Hevenor from 2001. We intend to explain to visitors what a class was like in 1916. Again, if you have any ideas, props or clothes that would help us please let me know.

Word Wallet activities.

Jolly Phonics – We are learning the alternative ways to spell some of the sounds /y/ (sunny), /ea/, /igh/, /ow/ (cow) /ew/, /ir/, /ur/, /au/, /aw/, /al/, /oy/, ) /ow/ (snow)

This week we are working on the “ue” sound but spelt as /ew/.

Please get the children to make up the following words. 3 per night

blew, chew, crew, flew, few, grew, knew, new, screw, threw, stew, view

Tricky Word activities. – Children will continue learning/revising the Tricky Words. We are revising the red List 4. See the Tricky words prezi on our class website. We use this in class to practice.

Our Aistear theme is still the building site. We are learning about making connections in stories. This will improve their comprehension of the stories. So if you are reading a story for example like “The three little pigs”. You can help the children make a connection between

1. Me and the story – I live in a house of bricks or I have seen a pig etc..

2. Another Story – Goldilocks – There was a wolf in that story too. etc

There are 3 more online Studyladder activities to complete if possible.

Thanks

Mr. Gleeson.
