Homework Note Week 4

Post date: 18-Sep-2016 22:46:01

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your support with getting the children all the tools (books, pencils, ear phones etc) they need for school. All the children have a yellow “My Tools For School” card in their pencil case to remind them of what tools are needed for school. Please check with them that they have everything each day. I will regularly give a dojo point to those that have everything. We started Literacy Lift Off last week in the class and that is progressing well.

Word Wallet.

Each child now has their own word wallet. As we revise the sounds and learn the words we will cut them out of the blue and green cards in class. The white cards are for matching and are not are to be cut. The children can “match” by placing coloured cards on top of the white card.

These short activities should be done every day for homework. (4 times a week)

Word Wallet activities. (These are progressing)

Jolly Phonics – for each sound

1. Match the green sound to its place on the white card. (Place the green a on top of the white a)

2. Children make the sound and show you the action. (e.g. a, a, a ants on my arm)

3. Ask the children to make a word or words using the sounds (green cards) they already have. e.g. fat, fin, fun, fog, elf, fan, fit, fed, soft, lift, fist, gift (3 per night)

Sight Word activities.

1. Match the blue card to its place on the white card. (Place the blue Luke C on top of the white Luke C)

2. Children say the name.

3. Ask the children for a sentence or sentences with that name in it. (Brian has a red car.)

4. Suggest that they give you a sentence where the word Brian is not at the start of the sentence.

Every week I will ask the children for their news usually on a Monday. You could help them prepare by asking them “What news will you tell your class about?” In Maths we will talk about and predict patterns (e.g blue, red, red, blue, red, red ...)

1st Class will start Spellings and Tables this week. We have a spelling and tables test then on Fridays.

Thanks

Mr. Gleeson.
