Homework Note Week 8

Dear Parents,

We plan to visit Curraghchase Forest Park this Thursday 20^th October. There is a separate note about that. I will continue giving 5 Dojo points for the Writer of the week each week. We are continuing our Aistear theme of the building site. There is a sheet in the homework folder with various types of tools. Please ask the children what type of tool it is and what it might be used for.

Please ensure that you are using the word wallets each night. I do a test each Friday on words containing whatever sound we are learning. Last week it was “ie” sounds (pie, tie, lie etc) this week it will be “ee” and “or” words.

Word Wallet activities.

Jolly Phonics – for each sound

1. Match the green sound, make the sound and show you the action.

2. Ask the children to make a word or words using the sounds (green cards) they already have. This week we are working on words that contain the “ee” or “or” sound. Try to make these words bee, see, sheep, feet and tree, fork, short, torch, corn and storm

3. See if can they make other words using these sounds.

4. Make sure to use the “or” sound and not the o and r

Tricky Word activities. – Children will be revising the Tricky Words starting this week. Tricky Words are very common words that do not follow the Jolly Phonics rules. They can’t be broken down and sounded out like most words. They must be just learned. Seniors will be revising the words. 1st class will be writing sentences with these words. 1. Match the coloured card to its place on the white card. (Place the “they” on top of the white “they”)

2. Say the word.

3. Ask the children for a sentence with that word in it. (I saw that they were lost.)

We have been playing Dominoes as part of “games with rules” during Aistear time. Give it a try at home if you have some dominoes. I also have 3 sets that you can have for a night. Just get them to ask me. The children know the rules.

This week we will play in our building site and talk about Halloween.
