Homework Note Week 27

Post date: 20-Mar-2017 14:55:45

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed St. Patricks Day. We completed the MIST (Middle Infant Screening Test) for reading and writing in the class recently. The children did very well. One of the items that are checked for is reversals of letters. This is a natural thing that can be evident in many emerging writers. If your child has reversed a letter in the test then please encourage them to check that letter each time they write it. Please keep an eye on the letter _________.

I am still looking for a hairdresser or Barber who would be willing to come in to talk to us please let me know.

Please ensure the children have all their tools for school (pencils, rubbers, whiteboard markers, ear phones etc) they need for school. These are essential for the smooth running of the class.

Word Wallet activities.

This week we are learning words that have the “ow” sound that sounds like /oa/

1. Ask the children to make a word or words using the sounds (green cards) they already have.

2. Try to make these words

3. snow, bow, row (Mon)

4. know, blow, low (Tues)

5. grow, tow, slow (Weds)

6. crow, glow, yellow (Thurs)

7. See if they can make other words with a “ow” but with the /oa/ sound.

Click into http://www.ictgames.com/phonemePatterns/index.html or on the ICT GAMES link on the right side of our class webpage to see list of words containing of all these sounds we have been learning.

Tricky Word activities. – We are now on the Tricky Words 5 list – blue words

1. Match the coloured card to its place on the white card.

2. Say the word.

3. Ask the children for a sentence with that word in it. (I saw that they were lost.)

We are still learning about Éadaí (clothes) in Irish. First Class are now on -9 tables and they are revising some spellings.

Thanks

Mr. Gleeson
