Homework Note Week 30

Post date: 25-Apr-2017 13:49:10

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a great Easter break. We had the local Barber Brian visit the class before the break and he told us about the life of a Barber in the old days and today. Our Aistear theme is now moving to “The Shop”. If you have any items that would help us play, cash register, trolley, items for sale etc. Please send them in. I will return them in a few weeks. Please ensure that your child has all their “Tools for School” I will continue to give points for the writer of the week, healthy eater of the week and children who have all their “Tools for school”.

Word Wallet activities.

This week we are learning words that have the “aw” spelling that sounds like the /or/ in /ee//or/ - the sound the donkey makes!

1. Ask the children to make a word or words using the sounds (green cards) they already have.

2. Try to make these words

3. saw, paw, jaw (Mon)

4. thaw, lawn, draw (Tues)

5. crawl, prawn, straw (Weds)

6. yawn, jigsaw, seesaw (Thurs)

7. See if they can make other words with a “ew” but with the /ue/ sound.

Click into http://www.ictgames.com/phonemePatterns/index.html or on the ICT GAMES link on the right side of our class webpage to see list of words containing of all these sounds we have been learning.

Tricky Word activities. – We are revising the Tricky Words 7 list – yellow words

1. Match the coloured card to its place on the white card.

2. Say the word.

3. Ask the children for a sentence with that word in it. (I saw that they were lost.)

We are on to the Yellow Words this week – Tricky Words list 7. First Class has covered all the addition and subtraction tables from 0-10 now. We will revise those in the coming weeks. We are learning about money. Hurling continues on Mondays and Thursdays.

Thanks

Mr. Gleeson
