Congratulations to the children and staff of Scoil Mhuire on a terrific Proclamation Day ! Everybody dressed up in period costume and entered into the spirit of the occasion. The atmosphere and energy were extradordinary and the pride and spirit of the students was self evident. We were delighted and honoured to have Mrs. Mary O' Callaghan raise the National Flag. As Principal of Scoil Mhuire for many years she always instilled a love of history, especially family history and local history, in every student she taught. It was wonderful to welcome the student's parents, guardians, grandparents and families to Scoil Mhuire. It was wonderful also to welcome the local community and the members of the Kenry Historical Society who came into talk to the children during the year. The children and staff put on two hours of fantastic entertainment including music, song, dance and drama. The events of 1916 were recalled in story and drama agus rinne na páistí dráma darbh ainm "Na Trí Muicín" i gcomhair Seachtain na Gaeilge. Then everyone was treated to a cupán tae and an art exhibition. Each child's art work was framed and displayed and there was an abundance of artistic talent to be appreciated. A tour of the classrooms followed where our visitors were treated to a display of artefacts, family histories and a number of projects on the 1916 Rising. Míle buíochas to all who helped make Proclamation Day a huge success!
